Communication

Simple and efficient: your checklist for ordering translation services

Successful communication across language barriers requires precise, professional translations. But how do you make sure your translation order is handled smoothly and efficiently? At Global Mundi, we have developed a checklist to make this process easier for you and to make sure your needs are met in the best possible way.

1. Clean up the document
Before submitting your translation order, we recommend removing all irrelevant content and internal comments from the document. This not only makes the translators’ work easier but can also save costs, as the price is usually calculated per word or line.

2. Order size and bundling
Larger orders are often cheaper per word or line. If you need several translations, it is best to bundle them. Let us know about future projects as well, so that we can plan for them and possibly offer a better price.

3. Consistency and reference material
Consistency is crucial for consistently high quality in translation. If you have glossaries, previous translations or style guides, please provide them. This helps our translators hit the desired tone and style exactly.

4. Clarity about language and style
Give clear instructions on the tone and style you want. Is the tone for a specialist audience different from that for a broad audience? Is the translation for a marketing campaign or technical documentation? This kind of information is essential for a high-quality translation.

5. Technical and security requirements
Let us know whether the translation should be produced in a special format or using particular tools. Information on the security requirements for confidential data is just as important. It helps us take the right measures to protect your data.

6. Formatting and deadlines
Special formatting requirements should be communicated clearly in advance. The file format also matters: if possible, supply documents in an editable format to minimise processing costs. Set realistic deadlines to avoid loss of quality and rush surcharges, and tell us early about upcoming projects.

7. Special requirements and additional steps
If your project has special requirements, such as a final check before printing or coordination with international subsidiaries, plan for these additional steps and let us know.
